Red Flags for an IEP

Parents, IEPs are legal documents that are created to meet the needs of your child 👉🏾NOT THE SCHOOL! There are so many IEPs written based on what the school can accommodate. I’ve seen IEPs written based on staffing. 😳 If the district didn’t have the resources, they omitted the service from the IEP even if the child needed it or ignored it.

Data from assessments drive how the IEP is written, NOT state standards. Parent input (because you know your child best) is also helpful when developing, amending, or writing the annual IEP.

A well-written IEP will serve a child and allow them to grow at their own pace. Please review your child’s IEP and make sure the goals and objectives match the data, teacher, team, and parent input. Fight for your child’s rights to be educated based on their needs.
