Build It! Write It! Elkonin Box
Elkonin boxes help children build phonological awareness skills. Children use the boxes to break down words into individual sounds. These separate sounds are called phonemes.
Directions:
Say a word and have the child repeat the word.
The child uses an object (token, toy, letter tile, etc.) and moves the object into a box for each sound. You can use two colors to differentiate between consonants and vowels.
Laminate the printout so that you can use it over and over again.
